Can I turn up early to watch?
Short answer is no. Your registration will only open as the previous competition closes so don't turn up any earlier that the time Registration for your event opens. You stand the chance of being outside in the rain for a bit!
Can spectators attend?
Yes. Spectators are welcome, however, seating will be limited. Spectators will stand around the competition area to watch the bouts.
What do I need to bring with me?
Sparring gear for starters - helmet & gloves as a bare minimum. You can wear shin/footguards if you want/have them. Bring some water too to stay hydrated between bouts. Eat before or after the competition, not at it!
If you haven't yet ordered your commemorative Polo Shirt, bring your wallet as there will be a final chance to do so, plus there may be other merch available!
Can I wear my black martial arts pants?
No. This is an official event so full white uniform (with Green, Red or Midnight Blue Trim attached, plus badges) is required to be worn. If you want to wear a T-Shirt under your Do Bok, please do - just be aware, it will be warm in the hall and you will be working hard 😉
What do I need to do?
Firstly, turn up on time! You'll be given some info about your group & which ring you are in so pay attention!
Make sure you pay attention at the side of the ring as it will be noisy and you need to make sure you are there for the start of your bout.
When you are sparring, you need to get close enough to score but without hitting your partner (remember, it is non-contact sparring). In order to signal to the judges that you think you have scored a point, you will need to Kiyap (loudly!) - just like we do in class.
Techniques aimed to the body will score 1 point and those aimed at the head will score 2. Make contact with your partner and you may lose a point or even be disqualified.
Most points in the bout wins!
The competition will be a league/round-robin format, meaning you will have plenty of bouts
Medals will be awarded once the results are known in each ring. Each student will also get a participant's medal
