If you’re searching for children’s martial arts classes near Manchester, you’re probably looking for more than somewhere your child can kick and punch. Most parents who visit us want a safe, structured activity that builds confidence, improves focus and helps their child grow as a person.
At North Manchester Family Martial Arts Centres, that’s exactly what we’ve been doing for families across Prestwich, Oldham, Middleton and Denton for many years. We teach traditional Tang Soo Do in a modern, family-friendly way, with classes designed specifically for different age groups rather than expecting everyone to train together. (NMFMAC)
Classes for Every Age
Tigers (4–6 years)
Our youngest students learn through fun, fast-paced lessons that develop listening skills, balance, coordination and confidence. Lessons include age-appropriate martial arts, games and activities that keep children engaged while introducing respect and discipline.

Beginners (7+ years)
Children aged seven and above begin learning more traditional martial arts techniques alongside practical life skills such as perseverance, self-control and goal setting. They work towards coloured belts at their own pace and are encouraged to support one another throughout their journey.

Teens
Teenagers often tell us they enjoy having a challenge that’s different from school or team sports. Training improves fitness, develops resilience and gives them achievable goals, while helping them build confidence in a welcoming environment.

What Makes Our Classes Different?
A typical lesson isn’t just about learning techniques. Every class follows a structured format with warm-ups, skills practice, partner work and positive encouragement from our instructors. Because students progress through a clear belt system, they can see their own improvement week after week.
At our Oldham full-time centre, for example, we regularly see children arrive nervous on their first lesson before confidently demonstrating techniques to parents just a few months later. That gradual growth is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. (NMFMAC)
A Real Example
One young student joined us after struggling with confidence and rarely speaking up during class. During the first few weeks they stayed close to their parent and were hesitant to work with partners.
By the time they completed their first grading, they were volunteering to demonstrate techniques at the front of the class, joining in confidently and encouraging newer students. Their parent later told us the biggest change wasn’t in the Do Jang - it was that teachers had noticed them contributing much more confidently at school too.
Stories like this are why we love what we do.
